Tool Selection
There is a side tool bar on Lunapic. The icons are kind of small and you have to place your mouse on them to know what they do. From the tool sidebar, you can crop, text, draw, cut, zoom, rotate, add gradient, paint, change eye color, scale image, and erase. The tool bar also has icons for printing, saving, opening, and closing images. You can also undo your last action.
The tool bar in Fotoflexer is directly above the photo. It is easy to see with large icons and their title directly underneath. The tool bar includes: autofix, fix red eye, crop, copy region, resize, rotate, flip, adjust, contrast, and easy collage.
Interface
Lunapic was easy to use with clear directions and easy to locate icons. However, it’s not as advanced as many photo editors.
Fotoflexer was easy to use and extremely organized. There are detailed options that seem to be very advanced and up to date.
Speed
It takes a couple of seconds to update a picture after applying an effect. It wasn’t horrible or anything that would make me not want to use this site again.
The images took hardly any time to adjust even though the effects were advanced and very clear.
Export
You can save image to your computer, Lunapic account, MySpace, Twitter, Facebook, Picasa, or ImageShack.
You can save your image to your computer, Fotoflexer account, Facebook, Picasa, Flickr, Smugmug, or MySpace. There is also the option to share your image through email, TinyPic, or a URL/Link.

Max. file size
The website suggests an image to be 2.0 MB or less to upload easily. I believe it could work with an image up to 4.0 MB.
The website says you can upload photos of any size!
Cost
There was no cost to use Lunapic. I didn’t even have to create an account, which made this process easy! If you want to create an account, there is still no cost.
It was absolutely free to use Fotoflexer. I did not have to create an account, but if you’d like to create one, there is no cost associated with an account.
Layers
Lunapic does not have the Layers feature. You can use multiple images for collages and animation but not to create layers.
Fotoflexer offers the Layers feature. The options and easy navigation allow this to be a painless process.
Effects
There are so many effects to choose from! There are three options that effects are able to be accessed from: Adjust, Effects, and Animation. I was surprised at the amount of options that were offered to modify images.
The effects on Fotoflexer are extremely advanced. You can also decorate an image with stickers, text, borders, etc. There are also other options such as beautify, distort, and animations.
Killer feature
My favorite feature of Lunapic was the user-friendly nature of the entire site. I was able to play around with so many effects and easily return to my original image.
My favorite feature of Fotoflexer was the Beautify effects. I was shocked that a free, online photo editor could fix blemishes and smooth wrinkles!
Lunapic and Fotoflexer were both much easier to use than Gimp! They had easily accessible options and tools. There were tons of effects to choose from in both online photo editors. Fotoflexer was definitely more organized and advanced than Lunapic. Lunapic is great for first timers wanting to play around with photo modifcation. Fotoflexer is great for sophisticated editing that needs to be done easily and quickly. I could use either one of these to quickly edit images for classroom use. For better quality and more advanced options, I would choose Fotoflexer. I honestly didn’t realize there were free photo editors online that were this simple to use. I also didn’t need to create an account for either sites.
